I think it's a good idea to look ahead when writing a series. If you can foresee characters you'd like to work with in the future, then trying to mention them in your current story is a good idea. I only enhances your world. Of course, you may have to be vague, because if you don't have that character fully fleshed out, you'll want to leave room for that when you finally do get to their story.
I copied a page from my character list so you get an idea of the basic stuff I keep track of. This one is not completely filled out yet. Zett is a character in FOREVER VAMPIRE. I keep all the characters in alphabetical order, and try to find a picture that resembles my idea of what that person looks like, though in Zett's case, he starts out as JRM and morphs into a more fantastical, lithe faery-type being.

That's a scandinavian name :)
It comes from the Old Norse words for Fight and warrior. ( Google for the win)
Win! :-) Yep, have to do a Norse hero of some sort, probably a slayer. Look into my Scandinavian roots for some of his characteristics.
